Coffee Break

One of my all-time favorite musicals has come to Broadway, and Harry Potter is the lead! I squealed like a thirteen-year old at a Bieber concert when I heard the news on the radio.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is a comedy about J. Pierpont Finch, a young man who's looking for success. He buys a book called How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and it teaches the following:

Among his adventures of starting in the mailroom and moving up in the ranks, he meets Rosemary, who has an eye for Mr. Finch. She decides early on where she and her husband will live.

Here is a video of one of the best songs in the musical, "Brotherhood of Man," performed at the 2011 Tony

Robin Williams Dead at 63 (Updated)

The world cries.

(Reuters) - Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead on Monday from an apparent suicide at his home in Northern California, Marin County Sheriff's Office said. He was 63.   Full Story.

The sheriff's coroner's division said it suspects the death was a suicide due to asphyxia, but the cause of death is still under investigation.

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken," Williams's wife Susan Schneider said in a statement.

The whole world lost today. To me, he was a long lost uncle who I had heard all about and seen home movies of. His comic and artistic acting went beyond the usual haha. He had depth, even among laughter. What Dreams May Come is one of my all-time favorite films. He's played a dirty old man, kids trapped in adult bodies, a genie, a doctor and even a woman, among other memorable characters!

Williams, who introduced his frenetic style on late 1970s TV series "Mork & Mindy" and had struggled with addiction in the past, had entered a Minnesota rehabilitation center last month to help him maintain sobriety.

It devastates me that things get to this point for so many. People are forced to fake a smile to get through the day. I feel more and more determined with each press release about suicide, people lost from depression or bipolar disorder. It pains me that he could not keep going. It pains me that so many were ignorant to his struggles.

In my darkest and most lonely hours, I would watch What Dreams May Come and be convinced that  there was someone, out there, who would face the depth of hell to save my soul.

I wish I could check with the boatman on the River Styx and confirm that Robin has made it home.

Our final prayer for him is to hope he's found peace.

What Robin Williams Movie are you watching today to celebrate his life?

Diagnosis

I'm staring at a blank screen and thinking, I'm supposed to be sharing how I feel. And I realize, I don't have any idea how I feel. I am all of a sudden a stranger to myself. I no longer know who I am, which parts of me are real, or what will even remain in the coming months. It's sort of a numbing feeling. I have come to know myself these last ten years, the quirks, the rage and mood swings. I have become excruciatingly self-aware.

Yet, this whole time, I have been sick.

I've had the suspicion that I'm ADHD for the past few years or so, but haven't been clinically diagnosed. Despite taking tons of herbs, I have been so tired, anxious and overall blah a majority of the time. It's an exhausting way to live. Spending a majority of one's energy to crawl out of bed, take a shower or just make it to your desk makes for a very unproductive day. This made me feel guilty. For not pulling my weight, for not being a better friend, girlfriend, worker, and it made me sad and frustrated.

I think to myself, I have always had these moment, the continuous oddities.  I've always been unique, socially obnoxious on my high days, completely antisocial on my lows, and aggressive towards everyone on my 'rage' days. I can be ridiculously moody, and difficult and see a neutral choice, where 'normal people see a bad choice'. I've had days where I couldn't leave the house for fear of going broke due to a weird urge to go buy everything. My high days have been like a spazzy cat... super energetic, but with no direction just trying to turn fast enough so you don't run into a wall, but kept going at max speed, yet never actually going anywhere. Year by year, life has gotten just a little bit harder. Existing was hard, is hard. Grin and bear it, everyone's having a rough time.

I was wrong.

Things had gotten pretty intense the last couple of months and I'd been pretty scared at times. I'd started to wonder if my ADHD was coupled with Depression.

My whole world of 'normal' came crashing down with two little words. "You're Bipolar."

I have no idea what to believe anymore. I have been trying to strive for a concept of 'normal' that I have to now accept I may never achieve. If I can never be normal, am I just damaged, broken? Who am I about to become with treatment? Will I lose the best parts as well as the bad? Will I like her more or less than I like me now? Will I find normalcy? What is normal, anyway?

With a diagnosis and three new prescriptions to fill, I sit here, questioning everything. How many of my past mistakes (and there are a LOT)  can be traced back to this diagnosis. How many of my strange fears and anxieties could suddenly make more sense if this is true. How many of these long days of heaviness and nights of pure exhaustion might I be spared in the future?

But what if she's wrong. What if they both were? I don't want to claim something that's not true, to believe something is sick if it's not. I think I won't keep any of the appoints and I'll pretend, that this didn't happen and work a little harder to keep it all together. I don't want to try only to lose hope.

The nurse practitioner told me that medication will help me be 'normal' and feel more normal. I guess that means I'll recognize whatever it is as normal when I get there. I just wonder which of my ideas of normal it will be.

Will I function like a 'normal person'? Get and keep a job? Not become a distracted mess three months in? Will medication give me an equilibrium between my highs and lows? Do I really want to take addictive medicine? Is that really necessary?

I argue myself back into disbelief and insist I'm going to stay there. There is just too much unknown, too much risk to even begin to think about mental health. Things have been fine, up and down, but tolerable. Everything is just fine.

But I can't help but wonder, to be just the smallest bit curious... what if? What if it is possible that I could do more than just 'get by'? What if I stopped dreading how many years are ahead of me and begin to embrace the life that is my future? What if the medication did help? What if the side effects are bearable, temporary and turn out to be worth it?

What if I accept I don't want to live like this anymore?

I'm planning on seeing a Psychiatrist on a regular basis so I can gauge progress and have a professional support system.

There's always hope.

This Cool Hottest Month (of the year)

It's no surprise that Texas has the strangest weather patterns. August is infamous everywhere to bring gnats, flies, sunburn and heatstroke.

Texas has shockingly (and excitedly) woken up to rain and beautifully windy 75 degree averages this week.

In appreciation of the weather changes, I thought I would throw this out to the universe in hopes that the weather in the hottest month of the year continues to be windy, rainy and cool.

When I first moved to Texas, one of its most crazy and icy winters ensued. Mike's truck, four wheel drive and all, was sliding and slipping on the glacial asphalt.

This year, I had to call out of work because my breaks were frozen! It's nothing like when I first arrive, asking questions like "Where did all the tumbleweed go?" and "Wait... there are trees here?!"

I have come to enjoy Texas for quite a few, mostly weird, things.

Growing up in Florida, you get used to unexpected weather changes, but nothing like Texas. It's a unique and drastic change.

I can't say it's not an adventure in itself. Here's to martini's and bathing suits and not dying of skin cancer!

What am I thinking? The Jewelry Knows.

Since I am writing a blog, I might as well plug the businesses I am a part of, huh?

GirlEpithy is a jewelry line I started with my bestie, Amelia. We have a few variations of jewelry that we feature, including bohemian, gay pride and mix-match themes.

Our hand-made poster gets the attention of many passerby's. Amelia sketched the logo you see above.

Amelia is a total girly-girl and loves the mix-match concepts of the Sweet Nothings Earrings (Below) I came up with for her GirlEpighty line.

I was especially excited about our EquaLove line... A Gay Rights Advocate Line full of RAINBOW jewelry! Proceeds from this line benefit the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention hotline for gay and lesbian (GLBQT) teens.

Check us out on the Web.
Check out our merch on Facebook.

Who knew you could have your crystal ball and wear it too?
