I caught up with writer-comedian-entrepreneur Phillip Paredo to discuss his new book, How to Quit Your Day Job and Be A Full-Time Comedian. Even though I am an epic fail in my attempts to be funny, I found Phil's book entertaining and sensible - definitely a must read for all aspiring comedians!

His book will be available for FREE Download from now until Friday, August 8, 2014.

Interview

What inspired you to write your first book?

I realized that there were no books teaching the fundamentals to young comics on how to be a comedian full-time. So, I felt it crucial to the comedy community that I write the book. It was sorely needed.

"There is no book that teaches the business of comedy. The bottom line for all comedy books out there is get as much stage time as possible, which is putting the art before the business. My argument for my book is - Put the business before the art and your art will get much better and faster."

How did you come up with the title?

The title says exactly what every comedian who has a day job feels - how the heck do I get out of this job and do what I love to do?

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

You may be making a terrible compromise by keeping your day job when your true passion and talent lies in the field of stand-up comedy. You are depriving yourself and the rest of the world of what you are meant to do with your life.

How much of the book is realistic?

There is not one part of the book that I have written myself that I have not been through myself. I am sharing my experience and my success with other young comedians who want to perform comedy full-time.

What are your current projects?

I plan to write a new edition to my book every 6-12 months because I am always learning new ways to earn money as a stand-up comedian entrepreneur. So I am always writing to add more information to the current first edition of my book. I also just launched my tour company in Las Vegas which provides great package deals on comedy club/nightclub tours. Check out my website: www.ticklemeentertainment.com

Who designed the covers?

I used a terrific graphic designer on Fiverr.com to create the cover for only $5!
